The Dickinson men’s soccer team won in thrilling fashion against Haverford on Senior Day on Saturday evening, October 21, with Matt Edmonds ’18 putting a header through a crowd of players for a 3-2 Red Devil victory.

The ‘Fords got on the board first with a goal by Ben Field, finishing a pass from Nick Janelli, in the 25th minute.

Will Bracken ’18 evened the score at 1 with a goal to the corner of the net, with just over 10 minutes left in the first half.

The Red Devils drew a penalty kick 58th minute but Haverford goalkeeper Jeremy Astesano made the save to maintain the tie.

Kevin Gilbert ‘20 put the Red Devils in the lead with goal off a feed from classmate Brendan McGovern ’20 to give Dickinson a  2-1 advantage with just 20 minutes remaining. Haverford struck back soon after, as Jannelli scored on a penalty kick with 15 minutes left. Neither team could score again before the end of regulation, and the match would be settled in overtime.

The Red Devils drew a penalty kick over two minutes into overtime and took full advantage, as Edmonds got his head on the ball in the scrum after the kick to punch the ball into the net and seal the game for the Red Devils.

Haverford won the shot and corner kick battles, 15-13 and 6-4, respectively. Astesano tallied six saves for the ‘Fords while Frederick Meagher ’20 made six in the nets for the Red Devils.

Haverford slips to 9-4-3 overall and 4-3-1 in the Centennial Conference while the Red Devils move to 10-4-2 overall and 4-2-2 in the Conference. Their season finale will be on Friday, October 22 against Conference-leader Johns Hopkins at 7:00 p.m.
