Volleyball Hosts Military Appreciation Night

The Dickinson women’s volleyball team played neck-and-neck with McDaniel through five exhilarating sets on Wednesday night, October 25, with the Green Terror eventually coming away with the win. The team celebrated Military Appreciation Night and welcomed guests from the United States Army War College as Lieutenant Colonel Sally Hannan joined the Red Devils as an honorary captain and Colonel Jeff Greenwood sang the national anthem as part of the celebration.

The Red Devils won the opening set 26-24 after McDaniel took an early lead but couldn’t close things out late. The Green Terror retaliated as they took sets two and three by respective scores of 25-15 and 25-13. Dickinson fought back in the fourth set, jumping out to an early 8-0 lead. McDaniel closed things up but couldn’t overcome the early deficit and the Red Devils won, 25-20, to set up the decisive fifth set.

The Green Terror started off the fifth set hot, taking a 10-5 lead before Dickinson closed things up and brought the score to 12-11. McDaniel persevered, though, and scored the final three points to win the match.

Anastasiya Khlopina ’18 led Dickinson’s offensive effort with 14 kills and two blocks. Jamie Singer ’21 recorded 10 kills and 10 digs to go along with two aces. Kristin Allgaier ’21 notched 36 assists in addition to 11 digs while Tatiana Lopez ’21 racked up 24 digs on the night.

Norma Jean Park ’18 had eight kills, four digs and a pair of blocks while classmate Erin Bongo ’18 tallied seven kills and five digs. Kacey Waleski ’20 put up 18 digs and two aces.

The Red Devils finished up their regular season with a match at Gettysburg College on Saturday afternoon, October 28. Dickinson started of strong, making the first set close, but the Bullets outpaced them en route to a 3-0 victory.

The Red Devils played neck-and-neck with the Bullets to start the match. The two teams were tied at 23 before Gettysburg was able to outscore Dickinson and win the set, 26-24.

Gettysburg used a 5-0 run late in the second to win that set 25-20 to take a 2-0 lead. The also got off to a fast start in the third, eventually winning 25-11 to take the match.

Allgaier put up 18 assist and seven digs while Lopez recorded 19 digs.

Singer led the offense with nine kills and seven digs while Park tacked on five kills and two aces.

Bongo had 11 digs to go along with four kills, and Jacqueline Banker ’20 added 10 digs while Kacey Waleski pitched in with three aces and four digs.

Gettysburg improved their record to 20-8 overall and 5-5 in the Centennial Conference while the Red Devils finish the season 9-17 and 2-8 in the Conference.
