The Dickinson football team battled back but could not overcome Moravian College on Saturday, November 4, suffering a 35-18 loss.

The Red Devils started off the game well, forcing and recovering a fumble on Moravian’s first offensive possession. They gave the ball right back though, as they snagged an interception and capitalized with a five-play scoring drive, finished off with a 21-yard touchdown run by Eli Redmond.

The Red Devils struck back as quarterback Jake Stevens ’21 connected with his tight-end, Darrion Bunce ’18, on three passes before finding Christopher Longo ’21 with a 13-yard touchdown pass.

Dickinson missed the extra point and Moravian responded with a 27-yard touchdown pass from Doug Erney to Nick Petros, giving them a 14-6 lead as time ran out in the first quarter.

The Red Devils forced and recovered a second fumble on the Greyhounds’ first possession of the second quarter, but could not manage to capitalize and put any points up on the board.

Erney tossed another touchdown pass, this time to Alex Pierce with 9:47 left in the second quarter to give Moravian a 21-6 lead.

Moravian marched down the field again and looked poised to score, but Jordan Hollander ’20 intercepted Erney in the end zone with four seconds left in the half.

The Greyhounds extended their lead with two touchdowns in the third quarter as Erney completed a 75-yard pass to Aaron Hudson and Tim Valentine hauled in an interception and returned it 10-yards for a score.

The Red Devils tried to mount a comeback in the fourth quarter, scoring two touchdowns, but came up short, leaving the final score at 35-18. Kienan Dixon ’18 completed six consecutive passes to drive Dickinson down the field and set up a seven-yard touchdown run by Jeremy Walsh ’20 with 6:26 left to play. Dixon followed up by leading the Red Devils on another scoring drive, which ended with Walsh rushing for another touchdown, this time from four-yards out.

Stevens finished 15-for-20 on the day, gaining 124 yards while Dixon completed 12-of-13 passes for 81 yards. Sam Peck ’20 tallied 62 yards on the ground while Bunce racked up 53 yards on eight catches.

James Turner ’20 led the Red Devil defense, totaling 12 tackles. Bryan Latorraca ’18 contributed seven tackles while Taj DeFrance ’21 made seven stops to go with a fumble recovery.

Matt Butz ’19 both forced fumbles and Will Peck ’18 forced and recovered another for the Red Devils.

Dickinson’s record falls to 2-7 overall on the season and 2-6 in the Centennial Conference. The Red Devils return home on Saturday, November 11 to celebrate Senior Day as well as Military Appreciation Day. The opening kick-off set for 1 p.m. at Biddle Field.
