Men’s Basketball Wins Two Straight

 

The Dickinson men’s basketball team earned victories in two Centennial Conference games last week, beating Muhlenberg College, 64-61, on Thursday night, Jan. 25, before before knocking off Haverford, 68-58, on Saturday afternoon.

Muhlenberg 13-4 got out to an early 17-10 lead midway through the first period, but the Red Devils answered with scores by Moses Romocki ’18 and Mike Hinckley ’19 to take a 1-point lead into the half, 33-32.

Dickinson began the second half with a three-pointer by Bryce Allen ’20 and continued to put pressure on the Mules to take a 50-42 lead midway through the second period. Justus Melton ’18 and Hinckley both followed up with scores to hand the Red Devils a 10-point lead.

Going into the final four minutes, Dickinson held on to a 59-52 lead, and Allen put the game away by sinking four free throws in the final second to give the Red Devils a 64-61 victory.

Allen led the Red Devils in points with 16 to go along with six rebounds and four assists while Romocki put up 13 points and corralled nine rebound and Hinckley tacked on 13 points. Melton tallied 10 points and six rebounds.

The teams played even in the opening minutes and were tied, 11-11, midway through the first half. The Red Devils jumped out to a 17-11 and held on to it through the first half as Bryce Allen ’20, Jon Stenger ’18, Romocki and Melton all scored to give Dickinson a 28-21 lead at intermission.

Haverford evened the score with 9:53 remaining in the game before Hinckley scored eight straight points to put the Red Devils up, 59-51, with 2:51 left to play. Dickinson held on to come away with a 68-58 victory.

Hinckley led the way for Dickinson on offense this time with 18 points to compliment six rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Romocki put up 17 points, four rebounds, five assists and two steals. Melton added 13 points to go along with seven rebounds and two assists.

The Red Devils’ record improves to 11-8 overall and 7-5 in the Centennial Conference. They will travel to Baltimore, Maryland to face Johns Hopkins University on Saturday, Feb. 3 for a 2 p.m. tip-off.
