Women’s Lax Opens Season With Wins

The Dickinson women’s lacrosse team opened their 2018 season with a 13-7 win at Lebanon Valley College in Anville, PA on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 24, as the first-year student-athletes shined in their first collegiate game.

The Red Devils got out to a 4-0 lead inside of the first 15 minutes of the contest, with three of those goals coming from Erika Bloes ’21. Eleanor Kaestner ’19 tallied her second goal of the game, finishing an assist from Anne Dunster ’19 late in the first half 8-3 advantage at the break.

Dunster scored to start of the second half and followed up with an assist to Kaestner on her goal to bring the score to 10-4 with just over 17 minutes left to play.

Classmates Greta Holt ’21, Madie French ’21 and Maddie Parker ’21 each scored a goal to extend the Red Devils’ lead to 13-4, with just over four minutes remaining.

LVC scored the contest’s last three goals to bring the final tally to 13-7.

Bloes led Dickinson’s offense with three goals and an assist and Kaestner tacked on an additional three goals. Dunster scored twice and tallied two assists while French found the net twice on the day as well.

On the defensive side, goaltender Avery Priest ’21 tallied eight saves and scooped up three ground balls while Tara Cassidy ’19 and Sarah Benziger ’20 were each credited with causing three turnovers.  The Red Devils picked up 21 ground balls on the day as a team. Dickinson allowed only 15 shots-on-goal while LVC allowed 22, and remained disciplined, only committing one foul.

The Red Devils are 1-0 to start of the season. They travel to Messiah College on Wednesday, Feb. 28 for a contest scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
