Men’s Lacrosse Beats Muhlenberg
The No. 12-ranked Dickinson men’s lacrosse team topped Centennial Conference rivals Muhlenberg College on Saturday, April 21, 19-5 at Biddle Field. The Red Devils’ offense was on fire as multiple players recorded hat tricks.
The Mules took an early 2-1 lead but the Red Devils tied the game up at 3 before the end of the first quarter. Tucker Carney ’18 recorded one goal and one assist while Joel Mayo ’19 and Brodie Philips ’19 found the net in the first as well.
Dickinson lit up the scoreboard in the second quarter, outscoring Muhlenberg 9-1. Charlie DeMuth ’19 tallied just over a minute in and five more goals followed from Tyler Strods ’18, Philips, Nick Goles ’20, Nate Usich ’19 and Carney over the next 10 minutes. The Mules broke up the run with a score of their own but the Red Devils fired back with three more consecutive goals as Mayo, Dylan Maher ’18 and Carney each scored again to put Dickinson up 12-4 at halftime.
Dickinson’s offense showed no signs of slowing down as they scored four more in-a-row in the third. Usich and Strods each tallied one while Maher scored two for a hat trick. Nate Emrick scored for Muhlenberg with 39 seconds left in the period to make the tally 16-5 in favor of the Red Devils.
Dickinson closed out the game by shutting out the Mules in the fourth quarter and putting up three goals of their own off the sticks of Philips, Patrick Mangan ’21 and Zach Levin ’20, bringing the final score to 19-5.
Philips, Maher and Carney each recorded a hat trick with three goals apiece, and Carney tacked on four assists on the afternoon as 10 different Red Devils scored goals. Goalkeeper Cole Pellicano ’20 made 10 saves on 15 shots in the net for Dickinson.
The Red Devils’ record moves to 11-3 overall and 5-1 in the Centennial Conference. They will face Ursinus in their final game of the season on Senior Day, Saturday, April 28 as they push on into the playoffs.
