The Dickinson College men’s soccer team hosted Rensselaer Saturday, Aug. 31 and traveled to Lebanon Valley Saturday, Sept. 7 where they faced a 3-0 win and 0-2 loss respectively.

The game against Rensselaer brought excitement to the men on their home turf. The men began the game strong putting a shot on goal in the first half bringing the score to 1-0 in favor of the Red Devils. Kevin Gilbert ‘19 put the first ball into the net. The Red Devils held Rensselaer in the first half.

In the second half, Dickinson performed the same way holding Lebanon Valley to their score of 0. Gilbert found the net again putting the second goal of the game on the board.

With this strong momentum, the men continued to widen their gap for the lead. Mohammed Kane ‘20 put the ball in the net for the third and final goal of the game. The Red Devils had a total of 16 shots on goal compared to the 8 of Rensselaer. Dickinson also made 8 saves playing a strong defensive game as well as the strength they showed on the offensive side.

The final score of the game was 3-0 in Dickinson’s favor and helped them continue their wins for the season.

In heading to Lebanon Valley, the men were ready. They have had a strong season up to this point and from long practices and an intense beginning of the season, the men were previously undefeated.

Lebanon Valley came out of the gates incredibly strong and was the first to be on the board in the first half early in the first couple of minutes. The score remained 0-1 throughout the entirety of the first half regardless of the fight back and the effort that Dickinson put in.

This did not discourage the Red Devils as they pushed hard through the second half and tried to answer the goal from the previous half. Lebanon Valley instead got away and scored another goal to widen their lead to 2.

Even with strong team work and comradery the Red Devils did not put a goal on the board for this game yet they played strong and got shots on goal.

Goaltender John Baney ‘21, made 8 saves in goal compared to the 2 of Lebanon Valley and played a very strong game. Dickinson almost matched Lebanon Valley in corners and did they best they could throughout the game.

The men have been training hard as a team throughout the entirety of the season so far. This season they brought on a total of 10 new first year members who are having an impact to the team and bringing around a new dynamic. The team has grown in size and is using this to their advantage.

This brings the men to 2-1 on the season. We wish them luck as they face Messiah this upcoming Saturday, Sept. 14 at home bringing with them the home field advantage.
