Baseball Falls in Double Header with Marymount, Tops Juniata

The Dickinson College men’s baseball team had a weekend full of baseball with two double headers against Marymount and Juniata.

The Dickinson College men’s baseball team had a full weekend with two double headers against Marymount on Saturday, Feb. 29, and at home against Juniata on Sunday, Mar. 1. The men of Dickinson unfortunately fell in both games on Saturday against Marymount, 11-7 and 5-0, after 7 innings in both instances. The Red Devils then made up for it on Sunday taking both games in their home opener against Juniata, 4-2 and 2-1.

On Saturday, Marymount jumped out to a very fast lead with four runs in the bottom of the first inning. This lead was further made by two more runs for Marymount in the bottom of the second, bringing the score to 6-0. In the fourth, the Red Devils answered back with a run of their own. Max Matilsky ’20 put Dickinson on a board, scoring on a single from Pat Davis ’20. In the next inning, the Red Devils brought in another, Pat Harrington ’22 brought in Tom Gannaway ’22. This cut the deficit to 4. Unfortunately, in the bottom of the fifth Marymount took off with 5 runs to broaden the lead, but Dickinson answered with 5 of their own in the top of the sixth to bring the score within 4. The next game was not as close as the previous. Marymount scored two in the first inning and held this lead until they made it larger in the third inning with three more. The men of Dickinson were not able to put any runs on the board in this game.

With the excitement of being on their home field, the men were ready to compete against Juniata. In the first game, Juniata was on the board first with one run in the second inning and one in the third. This did not discourage the men of Dickinson who were not on the board until the bottom of the fifth. The Red Devils put four on the board in the fifth inning and held this lead for the remainder of the game. Benner came in on a single from Harrington for the first run. Reilly had a two-RBI single and Brendan Pell ’21 brought in Harrington. The excitement from the win in this first game of the day carried into the next. Dickinson was on the board first in the bottom of the first Gannaway was brought in on a single from Matilsky. Juniata answered to bring the score to 1-1 but Dickinson again put a run on the board in the bottom of the fifth and did not allow Juniata to bring in any other runs leading to a 2-1 finish.

The weekend brought the men to 3-3 on the season so far. We wish them luck in the rest of the season.
