Following a remarkable first year under newly appointed Athletic Director, Celine Cunningham, the Red Devils have started the Fall 2025 season off strong. The fall athletes came to campus early for preseason and have been putting in the work through the summer heat. In addition to work on the field, all the teams have built connections through team bondings and volunteer in and out of the Dickinson community. A notable example was shown on first-year move in day, when the fall athletes helped out our newest members of the Dickinson community.
The football team began their hard work back on August 11, when their preseason began. To prepare for their first game, they had many practices, lifts, scrimmages, film sessions. On September 5, the Red Devils donned new uniforms and took on #21 Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon College, but unfortunately fell short of capturing the win. Although they outscored the Yellow Jackets 20-7 in the final quarter, they could not come back from their 28-7 deficit at the half. Dickinson’s top performers include quarterback Ben Klassen ’28, with four passing touchdowns, two interceptions and 275 passing yards. Another top contributor was tight end Kellen Boyd ’26, with 85 receiving yards and one receiving touch down. The Devils have their first home game September 13, where they play Waynesburg University at 1 p.m.
The men’s soccer team is coming off a high with a historic season last fall, where they made it to the Elite Eight, and they are starting 2025 off strong. The coach’s preseason poll ranked Dickinson #2 in the Centennial, just behind Johns Hopkins. The Red Devils begin the season with two wins and two ties to their non-conference opponents, none of whom were ranked. The Red DevilsLuke Finkielstein ’26, Saul Iwowo ’26, Westin Fryberger ’28, Timi Omoniwa ’28 and Roan Harrington ’28 have all scored goals and are looking to add to their stats. The Devils play their next game against #25 ranked Messiah University on Wednesday, September 10, where they continue the fight for their first conference title since 2011.
Looking at women’s sports, the field hockey team is on a hot streak! The first few games for new Head Coach Maggie Sohns have been full of success. The Devils began their season by upsetting #9 Messiah University in their home opener. After double overtime, the Devils edged the Falcons in the final round of shootouts with a goal by Megan McClure ’27 and a critical save by Taylor Morrow ’26. These players received Centennial Conference offensive and defensive athletes of the week for their performances. Following this victory, the Red Devils continued to capture two more non-conference wins.
The women’s soccer team is also undefeated in their non-conference play. They are 2-0-1 after playing three non-conference opponents: Penn State Harrisburg, Juniata, and Bridgewater. Ava Prisco ’27 leads the team with four goals, one against Bridgewater and a hat-trick against Juniata. Both veteran upperclassmen and first-year players have been finding success. Joelle Ma ’29 received her first collegiate goal in the Red Devils home opener against Bridgewater College on Saturday, September 6. On the defensive end, Pico Gray ’29 shutout the Eagles.
The women’s volleyball team has been taking on tough competition in stride. They have had six matches so far and won three and lost three. Mallie Thomas ’28 has been a key player, with 89 kills totaled in six matches. In their home match against Penn State Harrisburg, Mallie had a career high of 21 kills. Amelia Kim ’26 follows with 50 kills, and Eliette Whittaker totals 29 kills so far this season. The Red Devils are on a two game win streak, hoping to capture another win against Penn State Altoona on Friday, September 5, to give them a positive record.
The men’s and women’s cross country teams are both looking ready for their season. They began their fall with a preseason trip to Portugal. On September 5, the men’s team clinched their 28th straight Little Three Championship Title. Additionally, Nathan Caldwell ’27 and Luke Knestout ’28 were awarded Centennial Conference Athlete of the Week honors consecutively. The women’s team placed last of three teams at the Little Three Championship but Liza Barbash still snagged individual first place. The fall athletes are off to an exciting start across the board. Good luck to our Dickinson teams this season and go Red Devils!
