Devil’s Advocates Say “Thanks for Giving”

Devil’s Advocates will host Thanks for Giving, its first event since the group’s creation. The event will thank students who have donated to the college and will feature a variety of activities and foods for students to sample.

According to Katie Lasswell ’15, a member of Devil’s Advocates, Thanks for Giving has two aims. “[To] thank students that have already given back to Dickinson and to educate the student body on the importance of making even small gifts, because of the huge impact that the Dickinson Fund has on their college experience, ” said Lasswell. Students are encouraged to donate in increments of five dollars based on their class year; five dollars for first-years, ten dollars for sophomores, $15 for juniors and $20.15 for seniors. However, said Lasswell, “giving is not required at all.” The Advocates are hoping to reach 120 donations that evening.

At the event, students can enjoy free food, pumpkin painting, caramel apples and alcoholic beverages. The Crescendevils will perform, followed by a speech by Gregory Moyer, Senior Associate Director of Admissions.

Devil’s Advocates were created by the Office of College Advancement to “help educate about the importance of giving to Dickinson, where and how you can give,” said Laswell. She noted that the organization will gladly accept gifts of any amount, and that donations can be given to specific departments and funds.

“Devil’s Advocates is working toward more transparency so that students can really understand where their money is going,” added Lasswell. “By donating, they can actually see changes being made to the school that will benefit them and all future students,” said Lasswell.
Thanks for Giving will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Social Hall.
