Yes Please! and the PEAC Host “Hump Day Talk”

On Tuesday Nov. 17, Yes Please! and the Prevention, Education, and Advocacy Center (PEAC) hosted a “Hump Day Talk” in Althouse from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. The talk was organized as an attempt to create a space for students to discuss questions they have about sex, as well as issues related to sexuality and campus life.

About 25 students gathered in a circle and were given a list of questions submitted prior to the event. They then ranked the questions they were most interested in discussing, and the most popular choices were presented.

The group discussed how to have a conversation with one’s partner about consent and what each party is expecting, how to ask for what you want during sex and the best ways to introduce new things into a relationship. Students shared personal stories and opinions.

Danielle Melnick ’17 of Yes Please! said, “The purpose was to foster a sense of solidarity in one’s sex and sexual practices (or a lack thereof), thus creating a sense of solidarity with the group and legitimizing personal values and experiences. I simply want folks to be thoughtful, learn something new, and leave the room feeling better about how sex and sexuality impact their lives. We all deserve to find what feels good for our body, mind, and spirit, and talking it out is a great way to start.”

PEAC Director Kelly Wilt and Melnick hope this will be the first of many discussions about sex and sexuality on campus. For more information, please contact Wilt at [email protected].
