Prospective students arrived at the Dickinson campus on Saturday, September 18 for the Fall Admissions Open House.  The program, which began at 8 AM, started in the Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium (ATS) with an information session.

Prospective students and their families learned about the academic experience at Dickinson, the admissions process and financial aid during the open information sessions.

Sandra Goldman, mother of prospective student Ella Goldman, felt the structure of the information sessions was efficient and informative.

“I appreciated the way the discussion groups were broken up, the way that she [Ella] was able to get information about what she’s actually interested in instead of too much general information that we don’t care about,” she said.  “It was nice that they [Admissions] broke us up into groups of three in the areas [Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, and the Arts and Humanities] [so that] she could choose what she’s most interested in…”

Ella Goldman expressed interest in Dickinson’s liberal arts education.

“I like a well-rounded education…I know I want to be a lawyer…but I have interests in science and math.  [I like] the fact that I can pursue multiple interests at the same time.”  She said she was “…interested in the fact that [Dickinson] …[has] a mock trial team, and [appreciated] the student to professor ratio and the small classes.”

Before noon, the information sessions broke up into tour groups to walk around campus.  Prospective student Will Kia was impressed by the facilities and grounds. “So far, I really like how the campus looks; the dorms and everything are really nice.”

After their tours, student hopefuls and their families were encouraged to eat lunch in the dining hall.  Kia said that  “the day has really run smoothly, and I’ve really enjoyed the event.”  The Goldman family was also pleased with their experience.  Sandra Goldman remarked, “It’s been wonderful.”

As only one of a series of three Open Houses his fall, Dickinson students can expect to see future students touring campus on October 10 and November 12.

Both high school juniors and seniors were welcome to attend the open house.
