Message From Senate: Encouraging Involvement of Dickinsonians

Dear Dickinsonians,

One of the most disillusioning parts of coming back to campus is seeing how much has changed. In a small campus like ours, the little things stick out more to us than the average person. Mai bowls are now in the dining hall. The bridge next to the HUB is closed. The QR center has popped up in the middle of the library. Everyone handles change differently, and small changes can seem significant on a campus like Dickinson. Whenever I hear my friends or fellow students commenting on changes they’ve noticed, I’m always intrigued to hear how they feel about it. Plenty of people have made comments to me about the switch to Mai bowls in the caf. As a member of Food Advisory Council, this is important for me to hear. Your input will help guide us in our decision making. As your Student Senate, we have an obligation to listen. I can promise you that we also have a drive to see your ideas come to life.

Right now, you have the opportunity to choose the next set of students who will represent you. These students have collected your signature, outlined their vision in their letters of intent, and are ready to campaign for your vote. As your potential senators, they are not only ready to listen to you, but ready to act on your ideas. Just this past week, Student Senate was ranked the 7th most active student government in the nation by the Princeton Review. We should all be proud that our collective voice is having an impact. However, I also see that ranking as a challenge. Our work is never finished, and we all have a hand in ensuring that we leave this place better than we found it.

On September 12th, you can choose these change makers. Through our new club and organization management platform, OrgSync, you will be able to vote for the representatives in your class. If you haven’t checked it out yet, head over to orgsync.com, select Dickinson College, and sign in with your Gateway username and password. I also encourage you to get involved by applying for one of our At-Large positions. You’ll be hearing more about that soon. For now, take the opportunity to let your voice be heard and select the students who will make change happen in our community.

I look forward to working with you all this year.
