Fashion: Sunglasses and Summer Scarves

With the weather reaching record highs this past week, the sun has been quite strong, and students still seem be embracing these high temperatures. An overwhelming trend I am noticing around campus with both girls and guys are students wearing sunglasses when the weather is nice and sunny. In particular, Ray- Bans seem to be a favorite of many students; either the aviator style or wayfarer style appear to be the most popular. Ray-Ban is a sunglasses brand that originated in Italy in 1937 and is a hit here in the United States, as it is one of the most popular sunglasses brands. Not only do sunglasses block your eyes from the strong sunrays, but they are fashionable and become an accessory piece to any outfit. They are perfect to wear during any season, however they are typically worn more during the warmer months.

Another weather appropriate trend I’ve observed are summer scarves. For those who are not familiar with these, summer scarves are scarves made of thinner material such as linen, therefore making them appropriate for warmer weather. Summer scarves tend to be brightly colored, sometimes with various patterns and designs. They are ideal for when the weather is warm and you are looking to top off your outfit with an accessory.

I spotted Kate Egan ’14 on her way to the football game and thought her ensemble was perfect for this beautiful, sunny weather. She is wearing a white eyelet sundress, which she paired with a coral colored summer scarf that has a seashell pattern printed on it. She topped of her outfit with a pair of Ray-Ban Aviator sunglasses that not only protect her face from sun as she cheers on her team, but also creates a polished look.
