Caf Review: Chicken Pot Pie and Potatoes

Recently, I have been having a difficult time finding a meal in the Caf that I actually like (I even resorted to eating a salad one day!). The KOVE,  however, came to the rescue with their Chicken Pot Pie and Mashed Potatoes.

The last time I had “mashed potatoes” from the KOVE, they had large chunks of potato in them, making it difficult to eat and completely contradicting the “mashed” part at the time. Since mashed potatoes are one of my favorite side dishes (or entire meal, depending on the night) I am usually extremely critical of the Caf mashed potatoes. This time, however, I was pleasantly surprised by the lightness and fluffiness of the potatoes, which went perfectly with the chicken pot pie filling. Also, the crust on the pot pie was flaky and did not get too soggy, despite being soaked in filling.

Since the mashed potatoes didn’t have anything extra mixed in with them (such as garlic or root vegetables), I was able to add extra ingredients to my liking. I decided to add only salt and pepper, but I imagine that some garlic powder would have made the potatoes much more flavorful.

One of my mother’s favorite meals to cook is chicken pot pie and although this did not taste quite as good as her own recipe, it did taste more homemade than many of the other regular Caf options. Even though I enjoy a good Mac and Cheese day in the Caf, I appreciated how light yet filling this meal was.

Overall, this delicious comfort food made a stressful Tuesday night just a bit more enjoyable.
