Caf Review: Flat Iron Steak with Tomatillo Sauce
After a mock trial meeting on a Monday, a group of us in the club decided to get dinner together. When I asked one of my friends why we they wanted to go to the Caf, they almost screamed, “they have the steak tonight.” When I saw that everyone around me was smiling as they were walking, I knew we were in for a treat.
First, we all set our stuff down and began walking up to the line. On the way I glanced over at the entrée bar and saw some Tomato & Basil white pizza. I initially reached over for a plate as I had never tried it before, when I found the steak lying graciously in the pan next to it. I had expected it to be at the grill, so I was pleasantly surprised that it was right in the line. I grabbed two servings, and hurriedly sat back down.
When I cut into the steak it seemed to be done as I like my steaks, medium to medium well. I almost wiped off the green sauce on top of the steak as it looked strange to me. But I decided to keep it on. I took my first bite, and it was absolutely delicious.
The steak was tender and juicy, while the sauce really complimented with a flavor I don’t even know how to describe. I am sure glad I kept it on. It really helped the dish stand out from similar steaks I have had in the Caf, such as the flank and ribeye steaks.
Hopefully the dining hall will create more dishes like that which add unique flavors to traditional classics. I am glad I trusted my friends and will make sure I grab the steak with tomatillo sauce every time I visit.
