The Hypnotic dance team is a great place for any Dickinson student who is interested in hip-hop dance and wants to showcase their unique dance style.

The club allows dancers to compete in campus events, such as Apollo night, and perform for other community members. Hypnotic’s mission as a dance group is to discover fellow students on the Dickinson campus who are passionate about hip-hop dancing. Team members teach each other all types of dance styles “and choreography at a considerably high standard,” said Michaela Williams ’18, vice president of Hypnotic. However, the group still wants their members to have a good time with it, keeping it more recreational than stressful.

In addition to performances, Hypnotic also holds open classes that members facilitate for other Dickinson students to participate in, as well as sponsoring guest choreographers.

Hypnotic holds tryouts each semester and is currently looking at possible new members to add to their team. According to Williams, during the auditions, members of Hypnotic “teach a chunk of choreography that most likely the group as a whole has done before, then observe and discuss as a team to decide which individuals fit what [they] do.”

Williams, along with the other members of the dance team, look for new additions with the “ability to pick up choreography and musicality,” while also showing their individualism in their style of dance and their ability to have fun while dancing to make the performance “great to watch,” Williams said.

“[I] hope to keep growing as a group by pushing ourselves to perform great things, and really out-do ourselves,” Williams said. She also hopes to make connections with other communities on campus.

Hypnotic enjoys sharing their excitement and passion about dance with the community as well as spreading “good vibes” throughout campus with hip-hop dance. The club meets a few times a week, depending on days that work for everyone on the team’s schedules, in the HUB dance studio. Hypnotic performs at various locations on campus including Allison hall, Britton Plaza and ATS.
