Men’s Lacrosse Captains Issue Statement on Incident

We are sorry that an insensitive act by a couple members of our team has caused harm to the Dickinson College Community.

As student-athletes, we understand accountability and how the actions of one can impact others.  More significantly, as Dickinsonians, we understand and appreciate respect for others.

Obviously, an apology and words are one thing.  What matters more are the consistent actions and the sustained commitment to being part of the solution.

Our team is invested in this and hope that you will give us a chance to work side by side with other members of our community to help heal and learn.

What we have learned from many conversations over the last two weeks is that there is simply not enough interaction between various groups on campus.  College students are all busy and have their own particular interests and passions.  Too often, we become immersed in those pursuits and don’t make time for others.

This is a complicated issue and we know there are no quick and easy solutions.  However, we do believe that genuine interaction and a respectful exchange of ideas and perspectives is where change and progress can begin.

We realize that this letter from our team to the community will fall short for many. Those involved have realized their mistakes and own it.  We hope that you will accept that all of us are trying and will continue to do what we can to be part of the solution.

Captains of 2018 Dickinson College Men’s Lacrosse are:

Connor Murphy ’18

Dane Huber ’18

Andrew Jones ’18
