No Collusion

Something has finally been confirmed that I knew all along: neither Trump nor his campaign colluded with the Russians. After a two year long endeavor where Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller III and his team tried to find evidence that Trump or his campaign were compromised, they ended up with a report that directly includes the statement, as Attorney General Barr included in his principle conclusions, “the investigation did not establish that members of the Trump campaign or anyone associated with it conspired or coordinated with Russia in its effort.” I can already hear the calls for more investigations and claims that the Special Counsel was not thorough enough. Let me remind you that the Special Counsel issued more than 2,800 subpoenas, executed almost 500 search warrants, asked 13 foreign governments for evidence and interviewed over 500 witnesses. While there were indictments made against individuals related to the Trump campaign, they were for unrelated offenses. The Special Counsel’s report, once it is fully released, will show that Trump did not collude with the Russians despite and that there is simply not enough grounds for impeachment on obstruction of justice charges. The Mueller Report, even in its summary form thus far, has been an incredible victory for Trump.

The question that now arises is whether the Democrats pursue new avenues to try and push their radical impeachment agenda. Already, Democrats in Congress are asking to subpoena Mueller, as if he is some hidden Trump agent who spent two years of non-stop investigation thinking of ways to protect the President. Rep. Adam Schiff stated that he still believes that there is significant evidence of collusion. House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler believes that no matter what evidence lies contrary to his beliefs, that Trump must be guilty and that the only question left is to what degree he is guilty. It is my belief that no matter what the Mueller report says the Democrats will not be content.

They have been opening more and more investigations simply as contingency plans just in case the report didn’t go to plan. While I respect the need to oversee the Presidents and at their core I am not against the investigations as the American public should know about any wrongdoing, I am increasingly worried that these investigations are becoming ever more partisan and distracting people from the real issues.

I don’t think Democrats in Congress should try and impeach President Trump, at least with the findings from the Russia investigation. I can only imagine what most people would say if they tried to impeach Trump on Russia after reading headlines like “No Evidence of Collusion” or “Mueller Does Not Recommend Charge Obstruction.”

Impeachment is incredibly unpopular, and the Democrats may have to learn that the hard way just as Republicans did in the 1990s. Of course, what will happen is that by the time the Democrats are able to find even trace evidence of wrongdoing the 2020 election will be over, and he will be elected to serve for another four years. If I had to give 2020 Democrats advice in good faith, I’d tell them to stop focusing on partisan investigations and begin investing in the very states and voters they lost in 2016. No number of exaggerated claims or Spartacus-like behavior will save the Democrats in 2020 if they continue to dismiss the working class of this country in favor of the cultural and political elite.
