The Free xChange, the campus thrifting space, settled into the old mailbox room in the HUB Basement at the start of last year. Before that, it was in a side room of Allison Hall.
However, due to the upcoming HUB renovations, the space is expected to be moved, with a potential prospect of it not having a new space. I believe the Free xChange is a useful and vital element of the Dickinson community, and should stay where it is.
The move into the HUB has helped to make the space far more accessible to the student body, rather than having to go to one of the far off corners of campus to get to it. If it has to be moved, especially out of the HUB, then it will make it harder to access compared to where it is now.
The Free xChange generally also allows for students and community members who need new clothes to get them at no cost. While the thrifting idea around the Free xChange is fun, it is also important to consider that it can also help those who may need new clothes but can not afford to buy them brand new.
When you enter the Free xChange, there is a QR code to check in. This allows the Center for Sustainability Education to keep track of how many people use the space. If you go, make sure to scan it so the school knows the Free xChange is used and let it stay where it is!
