My time as Editor-in-Chief of The Dickinsonian didn’t unfold like I thought it would, but I’m proud of the work my staff have done this year.
As Editor-in-Chief, I learned a lot about myself and my abilities. I learned to successfully lead and coordinate a team. Including our associates, copy editors, and other managers, The Dickinsonian this year has had the largest editorial board in all four years I’ve been a member. I’ve learned how to delegate and walk my underclassmen through all the different things that go into creating the paper.
Many of our editors and associates this year are underclassmen who are experiencing their first time in an editorial position on The Dickinsonian. As Editor-in-Chief, I’ve done my best to focus on their development so that The Dickinsonian can continue to be successful after I’ve graduated. We’ve held InDesign workshops, and I think that the younger staff are more knowledgeable about our formatting program than most of our editors have been since we started printing again in 2022 after the COVID-19 pandemic.
This week, we worked with the IT department to install new computers in our office, and despite being jealous I’m not going to have the opportunity to use them, I think the upgrade will help each print production go even more smoothly.
Of course, I’d like to congratulate our incoming Editorial Board. Jessica Edem ’28, Ruby Jordan ’28, and Ella Sizemore ’28, who have all been integral to The Dickinsonian since they joined the newspaper last year, will serve as Co-Editors-in-Chief. Djati Kammen ’28 and Jay Clouse ’29 will complete the executive team as Managing Editor and News Editor respectively. Also part of the Editorial Board will be Ani Nikoghosyan ’27 as Opinion Editor, Felix Lopes ’29 as Life & Style Editor, and Katelyn Duffy ’29 as Sports Editor. They have all been wonderful to work with this year and I wish them all the most success going forward.
