Dickinson women’s soccer started off their 2013 season on a high note with two straight shutout wins. The Red Devils toppled Susquehanna 5-0 on Friday, Aug. 30 via a hat-trick from Jenna Lamb ’15. Four different Red Devils made it on the score board two days later when they swept the St. Vincent Bearcats 4-0.
Lamb’s goals against Susquehanna were assisted by Erin Stuphen ’16 and Allie Young ’15. Hannah Matlack ’16 added to the list of strong underclassmen performances as she held down the back field for the Red Devils. Susquehanna’s attack only managed to get off three shots, significantly less than Dickinson’s 23.
Dickinson dominated the game against St. Vincent this past Sunday as well, tallying 34 shots on goal and getting off 11 corners. Senior captain Rosalin Savoie ’14 netted the first goal at 19 minutes off an assist from fellow senior Sam Friday ’14. Despite a 2-0 lead heading into the second half, the Devils kept the pressure on as they continued their offensive blitz. Kerri Bergin ’15 notched her first collegiate goal off a well-placed corner kick from classmate Cate Maugle ’15.
Nicole Fronsdahl ’16 sealed the victory with an unassisted goal in the 73 minute, catching the goalie off-guard with a quickly fired shot from far out.
First-Year Jackie Geisler ’17 had two great games in the back field for Dickinson and played a key role in keeping the Bearcats to only two shots on goal. Charlotte Armour ’16 and Deanna Ballard ’17 each saw action in the net for Dickinson in both games.
The Red Devils are 2-0 heading into their next competition, their first away game of the season, against Stevenson at 7 p.m this Wednesday. They have three more matches until their conference opener which will be played at Haverford on Sept. 14.
