On Sunday, April 19, Dickinson’s athletics department hosted the 2 annual Redspy’s Award Ceremony. Organized by the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), the Redspy’s are a night dedicated to celebrating outstanding plays, moments and leadership across Dickinson’s teams from the 2025-2026 seasons.
Winners are decided by a body of coaches and athletics faculty in conjunction with a pool of votes by student-athletes. The night was hosted by women’s basketball’s Mia Chapman ’26 and men’s squash’s Joe Smythe ’26, whose good-natured and humorous attitudes shaped the entertaining evening.
Categories were generally split into men’s and women’s categories, and Alli Fritz, Dickinson’s Strategic Communications and Digital Media Coordinator, compiled multiple video montages showcasing the plays and moments being recognized. Winners were announced by select members of the student body, and received plaques describing their winning moment.
Standout winners included Lila Brown ’26, who received recognition for her outstanding athletic and academic achievement. An All-American for the women’s soccer team, Brown has received numerous awards and an NCAA scholarship for her academic achievement, leadership capabilities and strength as a defender.
The men’s lacrosse team received multiple awards, including the President’s trophy, a special award decided by President Jones. In the spring of 2025, the men’s lacrosse team led a historic run, going all the way to the NCAA championship in Boston. Despite losing, the team became the national runner-up, garnering national attention for their competition.
The women’s field hockey team also won multiple awards, including the Record Breaking Performance of the Year and Game of the Year awards. This past fall, the field hockey team had a historic season, as they competed in the conference championship and went to the NCAA tournament for the first time in program history. They went 19-4 over the course of the season, breaking program records for wins, shootouts and more.
Standout individual awards included Rookie of the Year, given to men’s basketball’s Jacob Pichay ’29 and squash and tennis’s Anabel Romero ’29. Trevor Richwine ’26 won Record Breaking Performance of the Year for breaking multiple records and becoming the National Division III champion in the 800m. Luke Whalen ’27 of men’s lacrosse received the award for Highlight of the Year for his consecutive game-winning OT goals in the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 rounds of the national tournament. Joelle Ma ’28 also received this award for her incredible goal off of a free kick from the half-field mark against Susquehanna.
At the end of the ceremony, SAAC president Sam Orzolek ’26 led the senior student-athletes in a toast, congratulating them on four years well spent and wishing them good luck in their future endeavors. Seniors received graduation cords, selective honor society cords and blankets as gifs from the athletic department.
