Red Devil Women Off to 2-0 Start
The women’s lacrosse team is off to a 2-0 start, winning at St. Mary’s on Saturday, Feb. 22. The Red Devils fell behind early in the game but responded to defeat the Seahawks 10-6.
After St. Mary’s first goal, Dickinson faced their first deficit on the young season, but a goal from Maddy Siebold ’17 put the Red Devils tied the score at 1. Talene Bush ’17 scored less than one minute later as the Red Devils took a 2-1 lead midway through the first half.
Two more goals from Siebold made the score 4-1. Siebold, who also scored late in the game, now has seven goals in only two career collegiate games.
Despite St. Mary’s late first-half goal that cut the lead to two, Dickinson did not allow the Seahawks to gain momentum as they netted two quick goals in the second half to take a 6-2 lead. Both goals were scored by Caroline Clancy ’16.
St. Mary’s responded with two goals of their own and entered the last 20 minutes of the game down two, 6-4, before Kelly Haglund ’15 found the back of the net to make it 7-4 Dickinson.
Clancy’s third goal made it 8-4 Red Devils, but the Seahawks would not be put away easily as they would tally two more of their own. Mara Cassidy ’16 and a fourth goal from Siebold finished the scoring for the Red Devils, who closed out the game up 10-6.
Dickinson will be back in action when they visit Shenandoah on Saturday, March 1. Shenandoah has struggled early in the season, losing both of their games by wide margins. They are set to host the Red Devils at 4:00 p.m.
