Men’s Basketball Falls to Gettysburg, Bounces Back Against Fords

The men’s basketball team got back on track this weekend, hosting a pair of games on Tuesday and Saturday. In the first of two games, the Red Devils suffered their third consecutive defeat, falling to the Bullets of Gettysburg by 19. Dickinson rebounded from this performance by completely shutting down Haverford over the weekend, holding the visitors under 50 while cruising to a 19-point victory of their own. With the week’s action gone, the Red Devils stand at 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the Centennial.

The Red Devils played host in another test last Tuesday night with the Gettysburg Bullets. The opening half began with back and forth play for both teams, and the score deadlocked at 12 after eight minutes. The Bullets would go on an impressive run, scoring eight consecutive points to open up a 28-15 lead with 14 minutes gone in the opening frame. The Red Devils would scrap back into the game, trying to stay within striking distance for the second half.

Brandon Angradi ’16 cut the Dickinson deficit to eight points with a three on the first possession of the second half. Gettysburg went on another run, posting seven unanswered points to take a 15-point lead with 18 minutes remaining. The game would never really get close again, as the Bullets increased their lead to 20 at one point. Dickinson and Gettysburg traded buckets down the home stretch, as the Bullets coasted in the second half for the 77-58 win.

Angradi was the leading scorer for the Red Devils with 10 on the night. Classmate Ted Hinnenkamp ’16 had a well-rounded performance, scoring eight while grabbing seven boards, blocking three shots and dishing out a pair of assists.

It wasn’t all bad for any Red Devil fans who made it to the Kline Center, as they witnessed program history on this night. With his second three-pointer of the game, Brandon Angradi became the Red Devil’s leading 3-point shooter of all time with 205 made. Angradi passed former teammate Adam Honig ’14 to claim the title.

Next, on Saturday, Dec. 5, Dickinson invited Haverford College to the Kline Center for their final Centennial game before the holiday break.  A second half surge would eventually propel the Red Devils to their first win in four games.

The Red Devils quickly scored the first five points of the game thanks to a bucket from Moses Romocki ’18 and three free throws from Angradi. Haverford answered the early call, opening up a slim lead at 13-11 with less than 12 minutes to play in the half. Dickinson exploded for a 13-2 run that included consecutive Romocki and Angradi threes to go along with two Hinnenkamp lay-ups. The Red Devils failed to score in the final five minutes of half, but found themselves leading 24-21 despite the sloppy play offensively.

Haverford cut the lead to one three different times in the second half, but were never able to overcome the Red Devils. Angradi caught fire hitting three shots from beyond the arc in a row, pushing the margin to 11. For one last time the Fords put the game within single digits, but the Red Devils put the game to rest with a final 15-4 run to take a 20-point lead with three and a half minutes to play. Dickinson would coast to the 67-48 bounce-back win.

Angradi was huge for the Red Devils all afternoon, hitting five three pointers in a game-high 18 points. Hinnenkamp was a force on the block, tallying 17 points of his own to go along with 10 boards, four assists and a pair of blocks in a double-double effort. With the win, Dickinson climbs to 2-4 overall and claim their first conference victory on the season. In their final game before the holiday the Red Devils will host their third game in a row,  facing Catholic University this Friday, Dec. 11, in the Kline Center at 7 p.m.
