Men’s Basketball Wins 5th Straight in Centennial Play

After a somewhat tumultuous season, the Red Devil Men’s basketball team kept up their second-half momentum, finishing this week with two strong wins over Centennial Conference rivals Gettysburg College and Swarthmore College. The Red Devil men have worked hard to overcome their early season struggles, going 7-3 in their last ten games, including an as-of-yet unbroken five game win streak.

Wednesday’s game against Gettysburg was a redemption match, after Dickinson suffered a tough loss against the visiting Bullets early on in the season. The first half was close, with both teams trading points and Gettysburg leading by the narrowest of margins, but after the break the Red Devils were lights out, shooting 66.7% and forcing 11 turnovers in the second half on their way to a 78-61 victory on Gettysburg’s home court. Ted Hinnenkamp ‘16 led the team with 22 points on the night, including a lay-up in the second half that sparked Dickinson’s offense. Hinnenkamp narrowly edged out Moses Romocki ’18, who came on strong as well, scoring 15 points after the break, and 20 overall. Jule Brown ’19 came away with six assists, and a momentum-shifting steal and dunk at the start of the second half.

The Red Devils celebrated senior day on Saturday with a 75-66 victory over a strong Swarthmore team, who came into the game ranked 2nd in the conference standings. Led by their two graduating seniors and captains, Brandon Angradi and Ted Hinnenkamp, Dickinson held the lead for the majority of the contest as they continued their push for a Centennial Conference playoff berth. The Red Devils started strong in the first half with three-point shots coming from Hinnenkamp, Jon Stenger ’18 and Brown to put Dickinson up 30-26 at half time. After the break the Red Devils immediately opened up a double-digit lead, which they would keep until the final minute, Mike Hinckley ‘19 sinking a three-pointer and a free throw to keep Dickinson ahead. Hinnenkamp once again had the highest point total of the night with 23, and added five rebounds, three blocked shots and two assists. Stenger landed 100% of his three-pointers, and Moses Romocki ’18 scored eight points on free throws alone, while sophomore Justus Melton led the team with seven rebounds and three assists. With this victory Dickinson improved to 11-12 overall and 10-6 in the Centennial Conference.

The Red Devil men look to continue their win streak this week as they take on Johns Hokpkins and Franklin & Marshall in the final two games of the regular season.
