Men’s and Women’s Squash Both Runners-Up at Yale

This past weekend, the men’s and women’s squash teams competed at the College Squash Association D-Division National Team Championships at Yale University, and both teams narrowly missed out on becoming champions.  The men beat Bucknell and Stanford before losing to Western Ontario in the title match, and the women beat Connecticut College before losing to Wesleyan in the title match.

In their first match at Yale on Saturday, the women beat Connecticut College 6-3, and in doing so advanced to the title match for the second straight season.  Winning their matches for Dickinson were Hedvika Suchankova ’19, Nicole Deluca ’19, Sarah Clothier ’19, Meaghan Dashcund ’18, Sarah Murphy ’19, and Freddie Bancroft ’18.

On Sunday, the women did not fare quite as well, losing in the title match to Wesleyan 6-3. Winning their matches for Dickinson were Deluca, Alanis Perez ’19, and Abby Wingerd ’19.  The team, which came into the title match ranked #25, finished the season 11-8 overall.  They will travel to Dartmouth for the CSA Individual Championships at the end of next week.

In their first match at Yale on Friday, the men beat Bucknell 8-1. Winning their matches for Dickinson were Abdelrahman Elsergany ’19, Brian Hamilton ’19, Hal Holappa ’19, Cory Litman ’19, Andrew Strudwick ’19, Nicholas Struzenski ’19, Harrison Mayo ’19, and Vincent Warzecha ’19.  Dickinson turned in a very strong performance, claiming the top eight flights with the winning players only dropping one set overall.

In their match against Stanford on Saturday, Dickinson advanced to the title match by winning 6-3.  Winning their matches again were Elsergany, Hamilton, Holappa, Litman, Strudwick, and Mayo.  In the title match against Western Ontario, Dickinson came just one match shy of capturing the championship, losing 5-4.

In only their second season of competition, the Red Devils finished with a 14-9 record.  They will head to the individual championships at Dartmouth with the women from Friday, March 4 to Sunday, March 6.
