Volleyball Goes .500 in First Four Games

The Dickinson women’s volleyball team split its first 4 games of the 2016 season, finishing 2-2 in the Gettysburg College Battlefield Classic on Friday September 3 and Saturday, September 3.

The Red Devils won their first game of the tourney 3-0 over Marywood (25-19, 25-21, 25-16). Arielle Misrok ‘17 led Dickinson with 17 digs while Erin Bongo ’18 tallied 13 digs and had a team-high seven kills in the match. Lauren Ahern ’17 and Norma Jean Park ’18  recorded 6 kills apiece and had 5 blocks combined. Alex Berezan ’20 racked up 20 assists along with 5 kills and 8 digs while Grace Stromberg ’19 tacked on five kills of her own.

Messiah College came away with a 3-0 win in the Devils’ second match of the evening, winning the first set 25-15, the second set 25-23 and were able to secure the match with a 25-13 victory in the third.

The Red Devils played a five-set match with Greensboro College before falling by an overall score of 3-2. The match was tightly contested throughout as Dickinson won the opener, 27-25. Greensboro tied things up, 25-18, before the Red Devils struck back with a 25-10 win in set 3.

Greensboro came back with a 25-13 win, tieing  the match and forcing a fifth set, which they went on to win, 15-9.

Dickinson turned in a strong performance in their second match of the day as well, triumphing over Penn State-Altoona, 3-0. Dickinson opened with a 25-18 win in the first set and took home the match with 25-9 and 25-11 wins in matches 2 and 3, respectively.

Bongo finished with 13 kills and 10 digs while Misrok added 2 more aces to go with 21 digs.  Anastasiya Khlopina ’18 and Lauren Ahern ’17 teamed up to combine for 9 blocks and 5 kills and Jacqueline Banker ’19 had 11 digs. Misrok was also named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Red Devils are 2-2 on the season. They travel to Goucher College for a Wednesday evening match against the Gophers, starting at 7 p.m.
