Football Drops Season Opener
The Dickinson football team suffered a 41-6 loss in their season opener at Randolph-Macon College on Saturday afternoon, September 2. Despite the point differential the Red Devils did manage to put up over 300 yards of total offense only punted twice on the afternoon.
The game started off tight, as Dickinson held the Yellow Jackets to just a touchdown in the opening quarter, but put together a pair of touchdown drives around a 24-yard field goal to pull in front, 17-0, with 9:19 left in the second quarter.
The Red Devils got on the board with a 26-yard field goal from Trystin Golowski ’20 with 5:37 left until halftime.
Randolph-Macon opened the second half with a 35-yard field goal before Golowski answered with his second of the day, from 36 yards out.
The Jackets closed out the quarter with a touchdown and tacked on a pair in the fourth for the final of 41-6.
Most of the Red Devils’ 335 yards of offense was accounted for by quarterback Billy Burger ’19 who threw for 212 yards, completing 20-of-32 pass attempts. Classmate Jake Walbert ’19 was Dickinson’s leading receiver on the day, gaining 85 yards on four catches while Daniel Salamone ’20 hauled in 10 catches for 57 yards.
James Turner ’20 was the top performer on the Red Devil defense, recording a game-high of 15 tackles, including three for negative yardage and eight solo stops. Jordan Hollander ’20 and Tyler Heisey ’18 each tallied eight tackles and covered 89 yards on five kick-off returns.
The Red Devils return to Carlisle for their Centennial Conference and home opener, where they will host Muhlenberg College at Biddle Field on Saturday, September 8 with kickoff scheduled 1:00pm.
