Men’s Soccer Tops Ursinus

The Dickinson men’s soccer team bounced back from a 2-0 loss to Franklin and Marshall with a 4-0 win over Ursinus.

The Dickinson men’s soccer team took a tough 2-0 loss at Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday night, September 27, but rebounded for a 4-0 win over Ursinus College on Saturday, September 30.

The Red Devils’ match against the Diplomats was very back-and-forth as F&M struck first, finding the net just 2:48 into the match as Jason Tonelli notched his sixth goal of the season.

The Red Devils struck back with a goal by Matt Edmonds ’18 on a free kick from about 25 yards out to tie the match at 1-1 with just under 15 minutes left to play in the first half.

Neither squad could gain the upperhand for most of the second half as they both tallied a roughly even amount of shots and saw excellent play from their goalies. The Diplomats finally broke through, though, with just 2:54 left in regulation as Tonelli scored his second goal of the game to put them ahead 2-1. F&M was able to hold out defensively for a 2-1 win.

Red Devil goalkeeper Frederick Meagher ’20 put up a great performance despite the loss, making five saves on the evening.

Kevin Gilbert ’20 score the game-winning goal for Dickinson against Ursinus off an assist from Colin Fagan ’21, 32 minutes into the match.

Gilbert tallied his second goal of the match just seven minutes out of halftime with assist by Ward Van de Water ’19.

Mohamed Kourouma ’21 tacked on two scoring his first in the 73rd minute tallying the Red Devils’ final goal with just over a minute left in regulation.

The Red Devils held a 21-3 shot advantage against the Bears over the course of the match to go along with a 5-2 edge in corners. Matthew Kenwood finished with six saves in the nets for  Ursinus as their overall record slips to 2-7 and their Centennial Conference record falls to 0-4. John Baney ’21 finished the match with one save for Dickinson.

The Red Devils improve to 6-3-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the conference. They will face Washington College on Friday, October 6 at home.
