Women’s Soccer Loses Heartbreaker

Dickinson women’s soccer lost to Muhlenberg on Saturday, Sept. 28 in the first Homecoming weekend game at Miller Field. Muhlenberg scored the lone goal of the match within the final fifteen seconds of regulation, handing the Red Devils their second consecutive defeat.

While they played well defensively and only allowed one goal, the offense failed to score for the fourth game in a row. Dickinson falls to 4-4-2 overall and 0-1-2 in the conference.After starting out 4-1, Dickinson has gone 0-3-2 over their last five games.

As the score showed, the game was very evenly played with both teams struggling to gain offensive opportunities. A majority of the game’s possession was around midfield, but, Dickinson had more scoring opportunities than Muhlenberg did.

Dickinson’s offense put up 17 shots but only five of them were on goal, all of which were saved by Muhlenberg’s Amanda Wong. Dickinson’s Charlotte Armour, following up an excellent seven-save performance in the loss to Messiah, made two saves against Muhlenberg. The Mules were held to eight shots, four in each half.

While shots were a lobsided stat in Dickinson’s favor, Muhlenberg finished with a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.

The Muhlenberg game was the first of eight consecutive conference games which conclude the Red Devils’ schedule this season. Johns Hopkins, at 3-0 in the conference and 10-0 overall, sits atop the pack. Franklin & Marshall is also undefeated in the conference at 2-0-1.

Dickinson seeks its first conference win when they face Bryn Mawr on Satuday, Oct. 5. The game is set to start at 1:00 p.m. at Miller Field and is the lone Dickinson home sporting event this weekend. Bryn Mawr is 1-8 overall and 0-3 in the conference.
