The Dickinson College Field Hockey team beat two more Centennial Conference opponents this past week to remain unbeaten in the conference. They now stand at 8-2 overall and 5-0 in the Centennial Conference.

The Red Devils were a bit slow to start the game against the Terror and fell to a 1-0 deficit after 13 minutes into the game. Teamwork is essential to the sport, and Kendal Packo contributes much of the team’s success to their ability to perform as a cohesive unit. “Working as a team is definitely one of our primary focuses, and we are constantly functioning as a team both on and off the field,” said Packo. “Each win so far has been a result of equal effort from every player, to not only perform their best individually, but to help their teammates do the same.”

McDaniel continued to battle throughout the remaining 24:00 minutes as they managed to find the back of the cage with just 1:30 left, but, Dickinson played keep-away and held on for the 3-2 win.
Perlmutter led the attack with a pair of goals on the afternoon while Packo registered assists on both tallies. Karwel came up huge on the defensive end of the field as well, making a key defensive save in the first half. Katy Schlechtweg ’14 had another solid performance registering four saves in the game.

Against Bryn Mawr, a pair of First-years led the offensive effort. Erica Marshall ’17 and Maddie Groves ’17 each had two goals. Marshall put the Red Devils on the board 9:00 into the game, scoring on an assist from Perlmutter. Taylor Meehan ‘16 struck next in the eighteenth minute, and Groves found the back of the cage five minutes later to put the Devils up 3-0. The Owls broke up the shutout opportunity by scoring in the twenty eighth minute.

Just 55 seconds after the halftime break, Groves netted her second of the day when she scored off an assist from Ali Becker ’15. Dickinson continued the offensive domination as Marshall found the back of the cage again, this time on an assist from Lauren Wyman ’14. To cap off the effort, Glenn Carr ’17 scored on an assist from classmate Kirsten Walsh ’17.

Statistically, the Red Devils dominated; holding the advantage in shots 27-1 and in penalty corners 13-3. Schlechtweg and Emily Fuss ’16 split time in the goal to combine for a shutout.

Dickinson has two home games this week. First, they take on Frostburg State, on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 4:00 p.m. Next, they look to continue their conference success against Washington College on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 1:00 p.m. The Shoremen are 3-6 overall and 2-2 in the conference so far this season.
