The Dickinson volleyball team had another tough Centennial Conference matchup against McDaniel on Oct. 2 as they lost 3-0. The team then suffered another pair of losses in the York College Tri-Match on Oct. 5 when they competed against Southern Virginia and York College.

Against McDaneil, the Red Devils played a tight first set, finishing 25-19, but then fell 25-15 and 25-11. McDaniel is now 11-3 on the season. Laura Silverman ’16 posted eleven kills on the night while Jenn Morrissey ’16 added 23 assists for the Red Devils. JoAnna DeCastro ’13 added eight kills and eight digs.

Dickinson stayed competitive throughout the three-set match with Southern Virginia despite falling 25-19, 25-23, and 25-17. Silverman added ten kills while Morrissey added fourteen assists. Against York, Dickinson was even more competitive as they took it to a fourth set. Despite losing the first two sets 25-18 and 26-24, the Red Devils came back in the third set 27-25 before losing a tight final match 25-22 to the Spartans. Silverman came up with another big performance, adding twelve kills while Emily Smith ’16 also added eleven kills.

Jessie Shaffner ’14 shared her thoughts about her final season at Dickinson. “We recently changed up our lineup and system so this weekend was a building block for later conference games. Unfortunately, we couldn’t pull out any wins but it was a good growing game for the future. Hopefully it will translate into a win against Gettysburg later this week.”

The Red Devils are currently 5-12 overall and 0-4 in the Centennial Conference. Dickinson will be hosting Gettysburg College on Wednesday, Oct. 10, for another Centennial Conference match up. The game is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. On Saturday, Oct. 12, they travel to Washington College for a match set to start at 1:00 p.m. Washington is 13-6 this season.
