Men’s Soccer Moves into First-Place Tie

Now Ranked #10 After Beating Bullets

Dickinson Men’s Soccer snagged a important 2-1 win on Saturday, Oct. 12 against the Gettysburg Bullets. The win moved the Red Devils into a first-place tie with Ursinus in the Centennial Conference, earning them the vote back into the top ten of the d3soccer.com poll.

Dickinson followed up the important win with a dominating win over a non-conference opponent, Eastern Mennonite University. Dickinson defeated Eastern Mennonite 3-0 on Tuesday, Oct. 15.
Against Gettysburg, The Red Devils played an aggressive offensive game to control the ball for the majority of the match. Although they were consistent with their play and were able to move the ball easily around the field, Dickinson was unable to find the net in the first half.

The Red Devils came on strong in the second half with more aggressiveness on the offensive end. As a result, they were able to tally two quick goals. Jamie Martin ’14 was successful in his penalty kick attempt, which put the Devils on the board and in the lead less than two minutes into the second half.

Less than two minutes later, Alfred Hylton-Dei ’16 assisted Javier Mena ’14 in his shot on goal. The Devils now led 2-0 with the majority of the second half left to play.

With only five minutes left in regulation time, the Bullets found the back of the net to put some pressure on. The Red Devils continued to play smart and strong were able to keep their opponents away from the goal.

Overall, Dickinson outshot the Bullets 12-6, which is another indication of the Red Devils success in the midfield.

Goaltender Reed Milbrath ’15 made five saves, spread throughout the game, to keep the Bullets off the board for the first eighty-five minutes.

Against Eastern Mennonite, the Red Devils were relentless in their offensive attack, outshooting the Royals 32-10.Javier Mena scored first, finding the back of the net at the 17:26 mark of the first half. Derek Kachadurian ’14 also scored in the first half, knocking his goal in at 30:29. In the second half, George Naranjo ’15 made it 3-0 at 88:18. Jeremy Palcan ’17 split time in goal with Milbrath, each recording two saves.

Dickinson currently is 9-2-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the Centennial Conference. With four games left, Dickinson will have a shot to host the conference playoffs if they win out. They will need help to do so, though, because they lost to Ursinus on Sept. 21, meaning they would not have the head-to-head tiebreaker.
