The Red Devils will be heading to the Centennial Conference playoffs this week after defeating Washington College 1-0 on Senior Day last Saturday, Nov. 2. Luca May ’14 scored the only goal of the game on a penalty kick, capping off the class of 2014’s senior day in style.

Goaltender Jeremy Palcan ’17 had one save to earn the shutout while Washington made 13 saves on goal to keep the final score at 1-0. The Red Devils controlled most of the field play and held a shot advantage of 27-3. The Shoremen had a very strong and determined defensive line which held off the majority of the attempts on goal. Dickinson earned nine corners while Washington College only forced three.

All seniors started the game on Saturday, making for an exciting start to the match. Much camaraderie was had, especially between Javier Mena ‘14 and May. Mena promised May the penalty kick so that he could “get his first points in his Dickinson career,” said Mena.

The Red Devils finished the regular season on a high note and an overall record of 12-4-1, including 5-3-1 in the Centennial Conference. They are no longer ranked nationally, but they are seeded fourth in the CC playoffs behind Haverford, Swarthmore and Franklin and Marshall. They will play Johns Hopkins on Wednesday, Nov. 6 for the right to advance and play Haverford on Saturday, Nov. 9. Earlier in the season, the Red Devils crushed the Blue Jays 3-1 on Homecoming Weekend.

Derek Kachadurian ’14 and Mena enter the playoffs as two of the top players in the conference. Kachadurian is among the conference’s top five scorers in addition to earning the highest number of assists. Kachadurian has eight goals and seven assists. Mena, the 2012 Centennial Conference Player of the Year, is fourth overall in assists with 5.

“The team is really excited to be part of post season,” said Mena. “[We’ve} had solid practices over the last few days so I think we are ready to go into postseason and hopefully win the Centennial Conference.”

Defenseman Kyle Schwab ‘14 was named to the Co-SIDA-Capital One Academic All-District Men’s Soccer Team. Schwab has started his whole career on defense, starting 69 of the 72 games over the last four seasons. This is not the first honor for Schwab as he has been named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll for three straight years. Not only has he excelled in the classroom, boasting one of the highest GPAs on the team, but he has helped lead a defense that has posted 33 shutouts in his 72 games.

Schwab, along with classmates Mena, Kachadurian, May, Jamie Martin, Dan Gaj, and Chris Schultz, have posted a 46-18-11 during their time here. They won the conference championship in 2011.
