Swimming Sweeps Lycoming and Stevenson

Dickinson men’s and women’s swim teams swam away with victories over Lycoming and Stevenson this past Saturday.

The Dickinson men’s and women’s swim teams posted big wins on Saturday, turning back Lycoming College and host Stevenson University.

The men overcame Lycoming 126-74 and dominated Stevenson, 140-30.

Alex Bennett ’17 led the way for Dickinson with a triple-win afternoon, claiming the 50 (22.64) and 500 (5:03.17) freestyle events, as well as anchoring the winning 200 medley relay, which the Red Devils won with a time of 1:40.64. Kiernan Jordan ’19 was a double-winner, swimming in the medley relay and capturing the 100 butterfly with a time of 54.45.

Graham Novitch ’20 swam the first leg of the medley relay and added a win in the 100 backstroke (56.75).

Mitch Reynolds ‘18 finished first in the 1,000 freestyle (10:29.07) and came in just behind Bennett in the 500 with a time of 5:04.33. Kevin Potocki ’19 claimed the 200 individual medley with a mark of 2:04.73, placed second in the 100 free (51.10) and led off the exhibition 200 free relay for a time of 1:32.72.

Ben Shapiro ’19 won the 200 freestyle (1:50.96) while Will Freeman ’20 was second with a time of 1:51.50.

The women defeated Lycoming by a score of 135-62 and topped Stevenson 144-77. Molly Sternick ’20 was a triple-winner, taking first place in the 50 (25.60) and 100 (56.05) freestyle events, and joining the winning 200 medley relay, which the Red Devils finished with a time of 1:53.31.

Madeline Callahan ’20 swam the lead leg of the medley relay and touched the wall first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:02.42. Olivia Lyman ’19 scored individual wins in the 200 individual medley (2:17.01) and the 500 freestyle (5:19.07) while Brenna Nimkoff ’18 finished second in the 1,000 (11:16.44) and third in the 500 with a time of 5:37.39.

Emily Houser ’17 won the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 11:07.01, placed second in the 100 butterfly (1:04.07) as well as participating in the exhibition free relay. Both Red Devil squads improve to 2-1 overall on the season and are on the road again next weekend as the women’s team travels to Bryn Mawr College for a 6:00 p.m. start on Friday night. They will join the men on Saturday as they compete at the University of Scranton, with the meet starting 1:00 p.m.
