Men’s Swimming Tops Scranton

The Red Devil men’s swimming team swam to a commanding win over the University of Scranton.

The Dickinson men’s swim team improved to  a 3-1 record on the season, posting a 171-91 win at the University of Scranton on Saturday.

Sam Eaton ’17 had a career day, tallying three wins and a pool record. He broke the previous mark in the 100 breaststroke, clocking a time of 59.39. He added wins in the 200 breaststroke (2:15.13) and with the 400 medley relay (3:41.68). He also anchored the Red Devils’ second-place finish in the 400 free relay (1:30.95) as the teams swam an extended program.

Ben Shapiro ’19 was a triple-winner as well. He led off the medley relay and won the 200 backstroke (2:07.99) and the 200 individual medley (2:02.94). He placed third in the 100 backstroke, posting a time of 57.61.

Kiernan Jordan ’19 joined both relays and swept the 100 and 200 butterfly events with times of 54.12 and 2:00.22, respectively. Graham Novitch ’20 touched the wall second in the 100 butterfly (55.26), joining in the free relay and winning the 100 backstroke with a time of 56.67.

Alex Bennett ’17 won the 100 (49.41) and 200 (1:47.72) freestyle events and led off the second-place free relay. Travis Lipscomb ’17 anchored the medley relay and added a second place finish in the 50 free (22.66) and third place in the 100 free with a mark of 50.87.

Will Freeman ’20 and Nick Beard ’18 helped the Red Devils sweep in the 100 breaststroke, taking second and third with times of 1:02.51 and 1:03.47, respectively. Freeman was second in the 200 individual medley (2:04.00) and Beard captured second in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:19.42.

The Red Devils finished 1-2 in the 1000 freestyle with Mitch Reynolds ’18 leading the way with a time of 10:24.56 and James Cummings ’20 finishing just behind with a time of 10:37.01.

Sasha Jouravlev ’17 touched the wall second in the 200 backstroke while Brian Reid ’17 and John Crafa ’20 added third-place finishes in the 200 freestyle (1:52.76) and 200 butterfly (2:15.92).

The Red Devils are home next Saturday, hosting Bloomsburg University at 1:00 p.m.
