Men’s Basketball Tops Haverford

The Red Devils took a commanding lead early on and cruised to a 81-62 win on Saturday.

The Dickinson men’s basketball team took control late in the game post an 81-62 win at Haverford College on Saturday afternoon, January 28.

Sam Lorenzo ’18 notched the first basket of the game before the Red Devils jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the early on and stretched the lead to double-figures at the 15:02 mark.

The ‘Fords managed to cut Dickinson’s lead to just four points at the 7:11 mark of the first half but the Red Devils went on an 8-0 run to close out the half and take a 40-27 lead into the break.

Lorenzo scored the first points of the second period to give the Dickinson a 15-point lead in the opening minute. Haverford would manage to trim the deficit to nine with 11:17 left to play, but Dickinson pulled back out in front and held on to double-digit lead for the remainder of the contest. The Red Devils then went on a 17-6 run over the course of the final minutes to seal the victory.

Three Red Devils scored in double-digits, including a game-high 21 points from Wright. He was perfect from the field, hitting all nine shot attempts and adding five rebounds, four assists and one steal. Moses Romocki ’18 tallied 13 points and four rebounds, and Justus Mxelton ’18 added 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting to go with six rebounds and four assists.

Lorenzo had nine points, seven rebounds and four assists, hitting four of his six shots. Mike Hinckley ’19 added eight points, sinking 4-of-4 free throws while Bryce Allen ’20 and Michael Jurzynski ’19 each scored 7 points.

The Red Devils improve to 10-9 overall and 7-5 in the Centennial Conference. They have since returned home to face McDaniel College on Wednesday night, February 1, with tip off scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
