Men’s Squash 3-0 at Nationals
The No. 17-ranked Dickinson men’s squash team topped No. 24-ranked Trinity College 7-2 on Friday, Feb. 23, No. 21 Middlebury College 6-3 on Saturday, Feb. 24 and No. 19 Franklin & Marshall College 5-4 on Sunday, Feb. 25 at the 2018 College Squash Association Team Championships, hosted by Trinity College.
Against Trinity, Alex Wattles ’21 won the decisive flight for the Red Devils in the sixth, coming back from an early loss to win 3-1 (3-11, 11-7, 11-4, 13-11), after Cory Litman ’19 and Frank Goossens ’21 gave Dickinson the lead with wins in the fifth and second flights, respectively.
Finn Trimble ’21 started off the match against Amherst with a 3-0 win (12-10, 11-9, 11-8) for the Red Devils. Frank Goossens ’21 (11-8,11-8,11-9) followed up with another 3-0 win in the second flight. Sergio Martin ’21, Litman, Wattles, Osuman Imoro ’21 and Tanay Murdia ’21 also won their sets to clinch the victory.
Dickinson played the Diplomats to a 3-3 tie midway through the match, with Goossens (11-6, 7-11, 12-10, 11-5), Wattles (13-11, 11-7, 11-8) and Martin (11-9,11-8,11-3) earning Dickinson’s first three wins in the contest.
The Red Devils pulled out wins in two of the last three flights on the backs of Imoro (11-13,11-7,11-7,11-8) and Murdia (11-2,8-11,11-9,9-11,11-5) to take home the 5-4 match win and claim the season series, 2-1.
The Red Devils finish the season with a 12-8 overall record and will likely maintain their highest national ranking in program history, at No. 17. The CSA Individual Championships will take place this weekend, Friday through Sunday, March 2-4 in Washington D.C., hosted by George Washington University.
