The first full week of November marked the start of one of the most exhilarating times of the year for Dickinson Athletics: fall sports’ Centennial Conference Playoffs. For two sports, their tournament play began on Tuesday, November 4. Both women’s soccer and field hockey, seeded third in their respective tournaments, faced their sixth seeded opponents. Soccer annihilated Washington College with a score of 5-0 with two of those goals coming from Lila Brown ’26 via assists from Joelle Ma ’29. Field hockey took down the Ursinus College Grizzly Bears with a 2-1 victory.
Two days later, field hockey had another playoff game against Franklin and Marshall College. A third-quarter goal from Megan McClure ’27 led the Devils to defeat the second seeded Diplomats with a final score of 1-0, advancing them to the Centennial Conference finals.
That Friday, November 7, both Dickinson soccer teams competed in tournament games. Men’s soccer took on the Muhlenberg College Mules, seeded sixth in the Centennial Conference, and swiftly defeated them with a score of 3-0. Women’s soccer faced the second seed team Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. Unfortunately, after a strong effort from the Red Devils, the Blue Jays ultimately won the game with a 1-0 victory, knocking Dickinson out of the championship tournament.
Saturday, November 8 brought both highs and lows for Dickinsonians. Field hockey traveled to Baltimore to play Johns Hopkins University, seeded #1, in the Centennial Conference championship. Despite a fourth-quarter goal by Dickinson’s Megan McClure ’27, Johns Hopkins won with a score of 4-1 and were crowned Centennial Conference champions. On the bright side, women’s volleyball won their final regular season game against Washington College. This 3-0 Dickinson victory clinched volleyball’s playoff spot, which they missed during last year’s season.
The following day, men’s soccer hosted the Centennial Conference’s championship at Miller Memorial Field. They faced the fourth-seeded Johns Hopkins University and played one of their best games of the season. Red Devil defense rendered the Hopkins offense scoreless, and Dickinson’s offense was nothing short of impressive. Within the first minute of play, Luke Finkielstein ’26 scored a goal. Later goals by Timi Omoniwa ’28, Nicholas Dwamena ’28 and Roan Harrington ’28 led to the ultimate 4-0 Dickinson victory. For the first time since 2011, the Red Devils took home the title of Centennial Conference Champions.
For volleyball, Wednesday, November 12 brought their first and only appearance in this year’s championship tournament. Travelling to Haverford, Pennsylvania, they went to five sets with Haverford College but ended up losing the match 2-3. There was more in store for Dickinson Athletics that Wednesday, though. Due to field hockey’s record-breaking season and rank of twelfth in the nation, they received an at-large bid to compete in the NCAA Division III Tournament for the first time in program history. In the first round, they hosted the St. Mary’s College Seahawks in Carlisle. With goals from Nicole Uebele ’27 and Megan McClure ’27, the Red Devils won 2-1, advancing them to the Sweet Sixteen round of the tournament.
Dickinson’s fall sports have certainly made the 2025 season a memorable one. Both men’s and women’s soccer teams, volleyball, and field hockey battled hard in the CC tournament. Field hockey went to the championship game, and men’s soccer became champions. Now, both teams are playing in the NCAA Division III tournament, writing new pages in the history book of Dickinson College Athletics.
