New interim staircase as HUB renovations set to begin

As Holland Union Building (HUB) renovations are soon to begin, Dickinson College has recently released the plans for the interim HUB floor plan that accommodates both construction and the student-need to use the building. Though many of the plans have allowed students to continue using the HUB comfortably, one interim plan has shown to be less than ideal.

As the beloved spiral staircase is set for removal to be replaced by a more accessible staircase, in the meantime Dickinson College has decided to install a fire pole for students to get up and down the upper and lower levels of the HUB.

However, within the first week of the addition of the fire pole, there have been over 100 complaints filed to Campus Life for “acts of obscenity” that have taken place on the addition. One student even reported “I was walking with my grandmother who was visiting me when I saw a frat boy sliding up and down the pole yelling they want one put in the D Sig”.

It is unclear what steps the school will take with addressing this issue. However, some students adversely reported they thought the pole was their “silly time in the seriousness of the school day”. One student even reported “I think the pole is a great addition, not for any creepy reason or anything. I just think it’s, actually, can you cut this-”. These reports coupled with hearing the constant laughs and “wee’s” of students using the pole throughout the HUB, it is unclear whether anything will be done at all.
